The income generated from a track named after a reconstructed and renamed building of Columbia University will benefit the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for Palestinian refugees.
Maclemore has posted a new song called “Hinds Hall,” named after the building of Columbia University, which was recently occupied by student demonstrators, reclaimed, and renamed in honor of six-year-old Palestinian girl Hind Rajab, who was killed in Israeli airstrikes against Hamas in Gaza.
A sample of “Ana La Habibi” by Lebanon’s Fairuz is featured in the song, and there are also footage of Maclemore singing and discussing politics, the Gaza War, and Palestinian solidarity in the music video.Go to Spotify and Instagram to listen to the song.
“Hinds Hall” is not yet available on digital streaming platforms. Once the song is formally released, Maclemore plans to donate all proceeds from its streaming to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for Palestinian refugees.
“At ‘Hinds Hall,’ Maclemore delivered a fearless speech directly challenging prominent American political figures, singling out President Biden for criticism over his perceived reluctance to engage in the forthcoming November presidential election. He meticulously critiques the president’s”peers in the music industry, rapping, “When on the horizon of freedom, never give up/ Yet the music industry is silent/ Participating in silence on the stage of silence,” and, “I want to pause the struggle/ Drake, go answer back.”
Last November, Maclemore was invited to speak at a Palestinian solidarity rally in Washington, D.C. He addressed the crowd, saying, “I don’t have enough information.” “But I do know that this is a massacre.” His speech came after an October 19 statement in which the rapper condemned Hamas attacks on Israel and subsequent Israeli attacks on Gaza, labeling the latter as “open massacres” and “American aggression.” Supported by a humanitarian crisis.
