When the ejection seat malfunctions when the aircraft is on the ground, an Air Force instructor dies.
In Texas, Shepherd Air Force Base reported that a trainer pilot of the Air Force died on Tuesday after the ejection seat of the aircraft became active while the plane was on the ground.
Captain John Robertson of the 80th Operations Support Squadron was gravely hurt in the incident on Monday at the installation, according to a statement from base officials. On Tuesday morning, he passed away from his wounds.
It was stated in the statement that when he was inside, the ejection seat of the T-6A Texan II aircraft malfunctioned.
T-6A Texan II is a single-engine, two-seat aircraft used for training purposes. No announcement was made about anyone else being injured. The event had place during “ground operations,” as the statement put it.

The base stated that an interim safety board investigation was immediately convened, and a full Air Force safety investigation board is expected to be formed by the end of this week.
When Robertson passed away, his family was able to be with him at the hospital, for which Coke credited the efforts of the area’s employees, along with other first responders and hospital staff who cared for him after the incident.
