Former UFC Middleweight Champion Silva, aged 49, will face his old MMA rival Sonnen in a five-round exhibition boxing match on June 15 in São Paulo, Brazil. Silva and Sonnen have faced each other twice in UFC bouts. ‘The Spider’ defended his title with a prestigious fifth-round submission in UFC 117 in 2010 and again defeated Sonnen with a second-round knockout in UFC 148 in 2012.

Silva vs. Sonnen 1 was a part of the international Fight Week in the UFC Hall of Fame Fight Wing before UFC 303. Silva, now 49, has a professional boxing record of 3-2 since stepping away from MMA in 2021, defeating Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Tito Ortiz, and losing his most recent match to Jake Paul via decision.

Round 1 : begins with both fighters moving towards the center of the ring.Silva looks poised and more polished as expected, boxing like a seasoned pro. Sonnen throws some awkward body shots, staying low. The referee intervenes to separate them as they grapple closely. Silva lands a jab, Sonnen counters to the body, Silva pivots away and resets. They clinch near the ropes, but the bell rings.

Round 3: Silva opens up a bit more in the third round, landing some definite shots but not throwing with cruelty. Sonnen gets a double underhook and pushes Silva into the corner, they separate and he does it again. Silva tries to counter, Sonnen presses forward, referee separates them.
Silva jabs, Sonnen counters to the body, Silva plays defense and counters with a jab and a short right. They exchange a brief flurry in the corner before the referee steps in. “Silva unleashes a devastating body strike following a precise 4-5 combination during the ground encounter.” Sonnen tries to threaten inside but Silva avoids anything major and the bell rings.

Round 4: Sonnen tries to chase Silva, who moves like a butterfly. Silva with a short uppercut, Sonnen clinches, and we’re separated. For about 15 seconds no punches are thrown by either man, before finally Silva with a short uppercut, behind him three-punch combo, and a dig, but no big shots by any person. Silva lands a shot and Sonnen falls on the mat. It’s not clear if it was a real knockout or not, but Silva threw the most punches when the round ended.

Round 5: It didn’t seem like a knockout, so we went into the fifth round. Each player delivered multiple punches. Silva seemed agile with his jumping and seemed quite composed. Silva waited for Sonnen to come forward, and when he did, Silva hit him with a combo. Sonnen came running, tied up with the ropes. The referee let him run for nearly 10 seconds before they separated. Sonnen’s nose was bleeding, so a brief timeout was taken to clear it up.Okay.

Silva delivered two jabs, spun, hit Sonnen almost nine times without receiving a response, and that was all she did in the final 20 seconds of the match. Sonnen raised his hands in the air, it seemed like he had fought five rounds. Silva felt like he hadn’t fought at all. A small part of old memories, but definitely no knockout, drag out case.

MMAFighting gave Silva 10-9, a total of 50-45.

After the final bell. Silva and Sonnen took off their stories. Silva put on his hoodie without sleeves, walked into the corner of Sonnen, greeted his coaches, and hugged Sonnen.

Ultimately, there was no winner in this performance. Post-Fight: Silva thanked Brazil’s fans as it was promoted as his final fight in Brazil.”
